Cargo Swimmables Bronzer, Price: Php 1,350
-This long-wearing bronzer won't budge; its medium bronze shade is universally flattering.
It has L-lysine, an amino acid that's found naturally in the skin dermis which increases the bronzer's water resistant properties; micronized light diffusers scatter light from the face, providing a natural, non-shiny glow; while its silicone-coated talc provides better skin adhesion, withstanding water.

Cargo Swimmables Blush, Price: Php 1,250
-For effortless summer glow rain or shine. Silky smooth texture layers easily. Paraben-free.
Inspired by the award winning Swimmables bronzer and packaged in Cargo's signature oversized silver tin, it also contains L-lysine and micronized light diffusers. Comes in Bali, Ibiza and Los Cabos.

She used Cargo Magic Eye Brush; and Magic Brush (Php 1,850)- it's the ultimate all-in-one, for powder or liquid! Scientifically engineered synthetic fibers act like a magnet.

Some of my take home learnings:
  • Wait 30 seconds in between application of the various cosmetics, allowing it to dry, or else, magpatse-patse.
  • Contour from mid of ear going to mouth corner, but stopping below the pupils of the eyes.
  • Choose water-resistant mascara over water-proof since the latter is not good for lash health in everyday use.
  • Nose line- from base of eyebrow lightly going down, then from "ball" (sides of tip of nose) going up to fade.
  • For soft look, opt for brown eye liner instead of black.
  • L-lysine (an ingredient of Swimmables) binds to skin.
With MUA Chinky Tanjangco. She looks like a delicate Chinese princess, no? This is my final look, everything on my face is by Cargo:
beauty blogger philippines, makeup artist chinky tanjangco,
I love Cargo's texture and pigments, it really is a quality brand. My fave is their base makeup. It covers well, feels light, has a soft focus effect and  looks natural (like my skin but better, not a shiny white face mask effect).

SEO 101- Best Tips for Bloggers

Hello po! I am literally amazed at how supportive the Filipino blogging community is. Imagine, a FREE blogging seminar no less! It's PBNet's SEO 101 last March 11, 2017, where they shared relevant SEO techniques (and cool stuff like Promate)!

In blogging, SEO is very useful and important. It helps get your blog SEEN at the top of the search rank results. Coz, admit it, sometimes we're too lazy to click page 2, right?

Man, when I was starting to blog I wondered why I can't find any of my blog posts online! I was a bit disappointed at first, but soon enough, I found out that, yeah, Google is your best friend, haha!

But there are times that, well, maybe I wasn't searching enough, and so couldn't find the answers to my SEO challenges. That is where the SEO gurus come in! In this case, the able mentors that day- Sir Alwin, the speaker, and the guys from PBNet like Sir Ron and Sir Raffy.

seo 101, pbnet promate,

They selflessly shared their tips and tricks, and it was so inspiring. Sometimes, I figure in a blogging slump, there is a ton of ideas (and pics on my phone), but for the love of dogs, I couldn't start to write- and it's so frustrating!

Hey, I think I was the first to arrive at 12:15 for the 1 pm event because- surprise! there is no traffic congestion!- but the very wise guy there, employee of Office Project, told me it would start at 3 pm and "shooed" me away telling me to have lunch first so in effect I arrived late, huhu, and missed some info teached during the start and I was fatigued when I got back, because the cafe where I passed time was far.

SEO, the importance of link building (on-page and off-page), keywords, optimal number of words per article, frequency of posting, Blogspot VS Wordpress, etc. We asked all we can, even about sitemaps, indexing, white hat technique, black hat technique,

The afternoon was spent all about SEO,  the importance of link building (on-page and off-page), keywords, optimal number of words per article, frequency of posting, Blogspot VS Wordpress, etc. We asked all we can, even about sitemaps, indexing, white hat technique, black hat technique, and more! I'd like to pat myself on the back for being so participative, or maybe I am so naive that I asked a ton of questions, haha!

seo tips, seo hacks,

Thanks to PBNET and the the sponsors- Promate, Globe and Gadgets Magazine!

pbnet promate, promate philippines
Yey! I won in PBNet Promate charger and cable!

SEO is a fundamental part and very helpful in blogging, but that is not to say, hey, don't blog if you don't know anything about SEO!!! After all, there is no 101% accurate set of rules as Google changes its algorithms from time to time! Just continue posting on your blogs if you really love to write- soon Google, readers, and sponsors, will take notice! Then attend SEO workshops / seminars like this one. Happy blogging! :)

A Local's Guide to Top Pinoy Food!

Hello po!
Oh my gosh, I have waited a looong time to finally post an entry all about - give it up for - FILIPINO FOOD!!! Because, well it is just about the greatest cuisine in the entire Multiverse (no bias, just the deep feeling of hashtag Pinoy Pride is strong on this one)!

Foodtrips are so much fun to write coz I have to buy and eat every time I will take a picture of the vendor's merchandise, hehe! And I am allowed to get fat because- hey- it's my birthday on March 15, y'know!

Now I will take you in on how a local eats. Because it is so much more authentic this way! So forget over-priced fancy Filipino restaurants and fastfoods for now and let's hit the kalye (street) and scour the bangketa (sidewalk) and eskinita (alley)!

As your expert Filipino (well technically I'm 1/4 Spanish and 1/4 Chinese but I identify as 100% Pinay) guide, having been born and raised in Manila (visiting various provinces from time to time) and living my entire life in the Philippines (except for my 1 week in Turkey), here are my top picks:

Rice- because!!! If I did not put rice here, I am a traitor to my country, hahaha! From the love affair with rice blossomed 'rice all you can' and 'unli-rice' in restos.

rice, foodstagram,

I remember, when I went abroad for a week, and we were literally fed no rice, I swear, even though my pics tell me my face is getting rounder because the climate was so cold and I can't sweat plus we were eating all the time, I feel like I am getting sick, like I was slowly dying. Real story, man!

As a child I was a very picky eater. When I did not like the viand, I just put liquid seasoning or butter on my rice, or just eat it with soup made from pork/ beef/ shrimp cube!

Instead of writing the kinds of rice as Angelica, Dinorado, Maalsa, NFA, the store keeper labeled it as BTS, Super Junior, Infinite, EXO!
Pinoys are funny/ creative and diehard fans. Instead of writing the kinds of rice as Angelica, Dinorado, Maalsa, Sinandomeng, NFA, the store keeper labeled it as BTS, Super Junior, Infinite, EXO! XD

Various Filipino viands at the friendly neighborhood Turo-turo (literally point-point). Shown here are bopis, munggo, kaldereta, etc. The seller is taking out the bowl of the first one to be sold out, which is kare-kare (peanut sauce with oxtail and veggies).

Top: Chop suey (stir-fried vegetables like carrots, cauliflower, chicharo, liver, quail egg, etc), Left: Dinuguan (stew of pork blood and offal), Right: Sabaw ng sinigang (sour soup of veggies and pork/ shrimp). Now here is a trivia: we love our ulam (viand)  rich, savory and comforting, and served warm. We hate it when our viand is cold- makes it seem old (cooked days ago), or contaminated (like a fly or the saliva of another customer already landed there). Also common is eating a banana as dessert after a meal.

My most favorite Pinoy food is nilagang baka with lots of potatoes and corn. I will try to update this blog!

Kwek kwek (quail egg dipped in orange batter then fried, best eaten with vinegar and sweet/spicy sauce) and other tusok-tusok (pierce-pierce) like fishball, chickenball, squidball, siomai, hotdog, kikiam, tukneneng, sebo, etc.

BBQ and Inihaw- grilled pig or chicken parts and organs like isaw (intestines), betamax (blood cubes), helmet, hotdog, squid, bangus, etc.

Lugaw or congee (rice porridge) commonly referred as poor man's meal. Only Php 12 and your tummy is somehow satisfied, then ask for a free glass of water. Usually seasoned with pepper, patis (fish sauce), spring onions and kalamansi. Optional  add-on: egg, tokwa't baboy or lumpia.

Mixsilog (with variations: tapsilog, tosilog, embusilog, hotdogsilog, malingsilog, bangusilog, danggitsilog, etc.) The fried viand served with sunny side up fried egg and garlic fried rice, sometimes comes with atchara and soup.

Oil overload! Consume a pineapple to fight cholesterol- ambulant vendors sell a whole small piece for Php 15, while pineapple juice sold by sidewalk vendors is Php 5 a cup!

what to eat in philippines
Fried errrthang!- galunggong, egg, maling, hotdog (I think I mentioned hotdog one too many times already).

Noodles- Pancit palabok, pancit canton, pancit Malabon, lo-mi, bihon etc.

Pancit palabok. There are also other kinds like pancit canton, pancit Malabon, lo-mi, bihon etc.
This is a very basic version for us poor people. There can be shrimps, tinapa flakes or chicharon added in there. But this is only about Php 15. Ain't complaining!

Breads- like pandesal, bonete, sputnik, putok, kababayan (Filipino muffin), etc. Breads are breakfast or merienda staples. We may fill or top it with margarine, cheese spread, homemade peanut butter, coco jam, strawberry jam, etc. or if plain, dip it in hot coffee.

Colorful native delicacies.

Taho- tofu, arnibal and sago. I like this very much.

Halo-halo- shaved ice, milk, sugar, leche flan, ube, sago, gulaman, banana, monggo, beans, langka, etc. There are variations depending on the seller.

Balut- the list ain't complete without it! For the daring, this is hard-boiled duck embryo. It's also said to be an aphrodisiac to strengthen a guy's knees for loving-loving later. Who cares about overpopulation!

Pag me pambara dapat me panulak. Lest you choke to death with all those food, here is coconut water to drink. Plentiful here in the country- very nutritious, refreshing and delicious. 1 whole coconut is Php 30, and a cup is only Php 5!

Pinoys are well-known for being hardworking and their hospitality, and will serve you these amazing food with a smile and po and opo (as a sign of respect). Ain't Pinoy food the best! Plus it is really cheap. Take for example taho- it is only Php 5 per serving; kwek kwek, Php 15 for a stick of 5 eggs. But if you are an adventurous foreigner wanting to take a chance on street foods, an advice is you must have a tough "immune to germs" tummy! Thanks for reading! :)

Why Do I Blog?

When i blog, I pour my heart and soul into it #char De nga, for me, blogging is a form of self-expression, a mental exercise, sort of like answering a crossword puzzle. It's not something that I do for the love of money. (Some people might blog to earn money and that is perfectly legal, nothing wrong with that.) As for me, never was money a primary motivation. I remember when I started almost 4 years ago, I liked to rant, especially about waste of money products or events that got me pissed off. That is why I prefer really to write- rather than to copy paste (yep, I really didn't like to copy paste press releases, but I can like them, only if they were duly compensated! Because hey it is WORK, and do you think PR or marketing people will toil for their employer if they were not paid?)- in an effort to be authentic; to lend my personal voice. After all blog (from weblog) started as an online diary. Then it became a marketing tool for businesses... You wouldn't fool yourself in your journal and say wow "x" is amazing when in reality it's a piece of sh*t, would you? Now, in addition to reviews and musings, tips and advices, I also blog about features, promotions, events I was invited to. So much fun really! But it can be pressure when you (or other people) compare yourself with other bloggers. Especially in terms of followers and fame. But I think, just continue blogging... Just be yourself. The blogosphere may be saturated but there are still many opportunities. And I am thankful for the perks, like being invited to fab events, meeting new friends, freebies (products or services), GCs, and very rarely (well at least for me), monetary compensation- which only acts to encourage or fuel the passion that is already there. Now I only wish I have more time for blogging, so maybe super short entries will do, instead of the kilometric proses I like to compose, haha! Life (or rather household chores, especially laundry, and distractions like movie marathons), gets in the way kasi and eats up the time I should be spending on blogging, but yeah micro-blogs (like Twitter, IG, FB, etc.) rule too! :)

The Best Contact Lens Solution

Before, I thought that all contact lens solutions were created equal, and that the pricing is based on what is the "popular" name, like branded vs generic medicine. And so I would only ask for the cheapest one. But this all changed when I tried and felt the difference with these very effective brands.

best contact lens solution,

This transition to the better started when I saw a contact lens solution (Bio true) with a FREE pouch in a drugstore. Being a sucker for freebies, I decided to purchase it even though I wasn't too happy that it cost twice as much as my old brand (Flex Wear and other really cheap priced solutions).

I have been buying my old brand for years now, and back then, I would suffer some eye redness, dryness and discomfort. Good thing it was lessened,  if not diminished, when I switched to pricier contact lens solutions.

So my advice for you, dear contact lens wearers, is do not sacrifice your eye health for just a little money saved! It is much better to spend or invest in good quality contact lens solutions!

These are the ones I have found to be really good- Bausch + Lomb Bio true and Alcon opti-free pure moist! Not only do they cleanse, rinse, recondition, remove protein, disinfect, store, but they provide moisture for hours!

Ingredients:

Bausch + Lomb Bio true review, Alcon opti-free pure moist review,

Bausch + Lomb Bio true
Priced at Php 330 per 300 ml at a drugstore.
Made in USA.

Alcon opti-free pure moist
Priced at Php 314 per 300 ml at an optical shop.
Made in USA.

Tip: Do not put it directly into the eye! Use a lubricant (usually comes in tiny bottles, around Php 70) for that! Contact lens multi-purpose solutions are designed as cleansers, not as eye drops!

Another tip: To be on the safe side, I usually toss my soft contact lens after 3 months, max 6 months, or right away if I feel irritation!  There's protein accumulation and little scratches/ tears already. Fresh is best!

Hey, I am not paid nor given any sample to say all this, but I only wish of course for what is good for my fellowmen - that is why I make honest reviews. And don't take my word for it. See for yourself! :)

NEW was founded in 2006 by its founding president Myren Garcia and a small group of female starters (her colleagues from previous work and friends from University of Asia snd the Pacific where she graduated) who met every Saturday at Myren's then coffee shop.
Garcia: "To be considered successful, you should be able to help other people too."

After working in a bank for so many years, Myren realized she wasn't reaching her full potential. She wanted to create something of her own but saw that there was lack of information, network and opportunities, and so it sparked the idea of establishing NEW!

Myren and her support group's simple meetings soon became a hub of ideas and a sophisticated vocation, and they started organizing mini events and forums to further expand their knowledge in entrepreneurship, til finally in 2008, they launched their very first Annual Women Entrepreneurs Conference, with the Internet being their only medium to advertise such event! Luckily, Philippine Star took notice and became a media partner. To their surprise and delight, 500 women came and their organization grew bigger! Currently, NEW has 52 members.

Last year's Network for Enterprising Women conference speakers featured best selling author, life coach and inspirational speaker Francis Kong, and one of NEW's prime mentors and owner of Mary Grace Foods, Mary Grace Dimacali; also present then were long-time members and the women behind successful businesses like Milea, Imagere, Strip It, Smart Concepts, Status Hair Salon, Dreambook Journal and Sweet Blooms Pastillas.
