adopt, don't shop!

Eversince I was a kid, little kitties have a special place in my heart. I pity them when I'd see an abandoned one and take it home. That goes for stray dogs too. I wanted to feed them all and give them a home if I could.. I took home a puppy with mange once but I think it was so sick that it died a few days after. Some people would give me a crazy look. Some would say that it's better to buy imported or those with breed. I don't care about their opinion. But I abhor people who are cruel to animals. Animals are intelligent and I believe they have feelings, and souls too. I actually prefer them over many human beings.

Currently, my family has around 20 rescued cats and 6 adopted dogs. Yes, I am from the Philippines and we treat them as family members. Those who eat them are usually drunkards or so poor they couldn't afford proper food.

This little kitty has no teeth yet but its eyes are opened. It was left in our garage after our older cat died maybe due to food poisoning because it likes to go out.

This is how I care for it:

First two days, it was an absolute angel-very quiet. But afterwards it was crying so loudly I could hardly sleep.

It was difficult to feed every 4 (every 2, if dehydrated) hours; it would move its head away so patience and a technique (timing like when it opens its mouth) is needed.

I squeeze in Bonna milk (if you have the budget, better to buy cat milk or lactose-free milk). In case of diarrhea, just let it drink clean water with dextrose powder or if not available, water plus a pinch each of sugar and salt.

You can use a feeding bottle, dropper, clean sponge, cotton, or 0.5 ml syringe without needle. Always clean this promptly after use to avoid food poisoning from spoiled milk.

Make sure its head is level- if it is upwards facing the sky, liquid might go to lungs or cause asphyxia (check if the milk just goes out of the nose).

I have a food box that had separations or compartments. So I put in clean water, water with milk, and some tissue and cotton with alcohol. I also have many rags.

It is very important to keep it warm so I turn on this bulb at night. Never leave them for hours or the whole day, it seems like they always want to be near their adoptive parent!

You also have to wipe its abdomen to its privates to stimulate poo and pee. Always clean up immediately after it poops/pees! Exposure to foul smell over long periods make them sick.

Make sure they get some sunlight everyday to make them healthy.

Avoid placing kitties in high places. They don't have developed reflexes yet. They might fall head first, causing them injuries which might result to fatality.

I think the best thing to do for an animal is to bring him/her to the vet for check up, if healthy or for treatment, if sick. They can advice you if the cat requires vitamins, or if need to be force fed to avoid malnutrition, or see if it can use its mouth muscles to swallow. There are some charitable ones and NGO's that charge low rates. (Forget the government, all they care about is stealing tax money. Pounds kill their trapped animals.) Or you could raise money for it. Really! What if your relative is sick? Instead of buying useless stuff, save your money.

I agree with other animal lovers that senseless breeding/puppy mills should be stopped, or at least monitored. So many animals are neglected and suffering- confined in tiny cages, forced to give birth numerous times, not given enough medical attention, and the list goes on... There are many dogs/cats in pounds and shelters asking for help. Adopt, don't shop, is the way to go.

BDJ Box x Shiseido Ibuki September 21 2013 beauty soiree at the Edsa Shang

Hola Chicas,
I wanted to share with you my experience on the abovementioned. I got an invite to this event by joining in on BDJ's Facebook page. This is for their new Ibuki line since the majority of their products are skin care. If the skin is clear, there is hardly any need for lots of makeup.
I was quite early at 1:30 pm. I wanted to listen but was quite shy because my slot is for later so I went to the grocery and bought some food and drinks. I get a headache when I'm dehydrated so I wanted to sip something while listening.
I went to sign in by showing a print out of their e-mail and signing beside my name on the list. They put 2 colorful ribbons on my wrist corresponding with the talk registered to.
Ms. Carmel Villongco was the speaker (she is funny and loves to crack jokes), DJ Tracy was the host and the makeup artist is Mr. Mitchell (hope I spelled correctly.)
I attended Polished and Pretty, and Holiday Glam
Who has a perfect complexion?
The reflect and fit powder may eliminate the need for separate concealers and color correctors
The sheer and perfect foundation is ideal for a busy person
Whoopsie, my stolen shot did not do her justice but just consider this a wacky pose. She looks better in person like Bea Alonzo (wink)
The favorite item of the training manager
Lipstick galore
Products used

I was happy to learn many things. There were 4 lootbags up for grabs, given to the lucky girls who will raise her hand first, and answer the question at the end of each module. Even if the answer was not correct, the host was considerate and showed the right answer to the recipient. I think it was also great for the girl who got to experience facial cleansing and makeover the Shiseido way. Unfortunately, I did not get a prize (sad face). But not to worry, we did not leave empty handed.
I got 2 certificates that were thoughtfully encased (you can reuse its laminated envelop), a free quick facial coupon, and samples-small tube Benefiance and 4 sachets Revital. I just included in the picture the e-mail sent to me that I printed.

Those who attended the workshop get a 20% discount on Shiseido products just for that day. Sheer and Perfect foundation sounds good to me. I am not good with putting concealer because instead of hiding the blemish, the red mark is still there and you can see the lighter "halo" around it which is the concealer. Hopefully because of its color noise canceling technology I won't need one. I perspire easily and when I pile layers of makeup it's heavy and sticky so it's lightness is good. Also, I believe you can splurge on a quality foundation cause it goes on your whole face and is the base for your other makeup.
I wanted to buy it but I have opened foundies at home. I think it is a waste if I own all and yet could not use it.  Time is ticking cause you have to throw it after a few months even if it was not finished. I will just wait for the 20% off coupon they will send.
I did not go home immediately afterwards. I redeemed a sample that I signed for from another brand, and then my dinner was eat all you can cakes and coffee which made me all the more unable to sleep.

Great job and thanks, BDJ x Shiseido.

Also, thank you for reading!

devirginized at the goody event nails, that is. Sorry can't help it just to grab your attention. It was the first time in my 29 years of existence so it's a big deal for me that another person fixed my nails coz i always do it myself. I heard enough horror stories that I don't entrust them to anyone- like infection, bleeding, pus, etc. So when this opportunity came to have one free and I know the high standard of Beauty & Butter- having passed their branch in San Lazaro, I decided to give it a go. Glad that I did. My hands looked divine. The friendly attendant (called buttercup) was smiling at me so I was comfortable as she cut the sides of my nails, pushed my cuticles back, buffed, applied the nail varnish. My hands were sweating profusely the entire time. I chose a light violet Orly shade but sadly it was not yet fully dry when I dug at my bag so the day hasn't ended and my fresh polish was dented.

*There was a long queue for them even though the program ended already.

On to Goody #Comeplay September 14, 2013 at SM MOA Atrium.
I got my invite and a Goody brush as part of the BDJ September Elite Girls' Night Out Box.
*part of lootbag contents 2 goody elastics and Avent cup
Other options to have one is to get a complimentary invite thru promo, to buy Php 350 worth of Goody products from different SM malls or even if you just happen to pass by and wonder what the commotion is you can buy at the event, I saw they have many supplies there and loot bags in stock.
I was really happy to get the invite and looking forward to the event. Who am I kidding? I spent the whole day, and incurred transportation and dining out expense. I think the loot bag/freebies/giveaways was worth it. As I can Google and know almost anything under the sun, I had to stay and endure the talks for the whole afternoon because of the scattered raffles.
*Other inclusions in the lootbag- Chalk Nov '12 back issue, Goody transferable stickers, Avent/Aprica discount coupon, Beauty & Butter upgrade coupon, Goody bookmark cum 8 inch ruler guide, Sharpie pentel (LOVE IT), Vitress Hair Polish, a bit near-expiry Celeteque lip balm that I used immediately, Vitress Hair Cuticle coat, Nippon sponge and Ph Care fem wash sachet.

As you go from booth to booth you can score these-
From Wacoal Sorci age-Special price coupon, a photo shoot (I did not like that I was looking elsewhere here, I was looking at the cam and it flashed then I looked away it flashed again. I did not remember there was counting so unfortunately the second flash was IT, and strictly one picture only), Sorci folder with literature inside, Nippon cleansing sponge and checklist of their products, I think the flyer of Flipster was inside the loot bag but I included it here, Flipster keychain and cash voucher for participating in their origami game, Picture and discount coupon from Fujifilm Instax, Goody Ouchless which I got for registering to and watching the hair braiding talk, Fun Flash Cards from the Philips Avent/Aprika booth for liking or following their FB/Twitter and I took a catalog at the Philips booth while my hair was being permed.
*For my sweet tooth, I got to create my own Gonuts Donuts masterpiece (it's an abstract, ok) once, and for unlimited times you can  get a bit of donut and try their peanut butter crunchy/ creamy spread. There was also a chocolate dip not in the picture cause I devoured it before realizing I had to take its picture.
Nippon Esthetic Solutions generously had brush cleaning services (5 pcs. maximum)

There  was a game and 4 Flipsters were up for grabs (my team didn't win coz can't find some missing letters) and there were many talks from bloggers, celebrities and sponsor's representatives.
Hosts need to be bubbly, witty and energetic to keep us awake.
Now to wrap it up, I think these are the good points.  As I went there alone, I had to mingle with other attendees and got their feedback so I made new friends. I learned many things like your bra fitting might not be the same even if it's the same brand but if the style is different then size could variate. It's great that the Goody Staff are friendly, and thank you Goody and sponsors for working up exciting freebies and services for us.
So these are areas for improvement. These comments do not necessarily reflect mine-
A woman told me the lootbag wasn't complete as there were items missing from the one she saw in the FB page and it was not chock-full; she expected more items like in the other Mother's Day event she attended at another mall she went home with 3 lootbags.
One of the Philips hair staff was frowning and not as knowledgeable as the other in uniform.
There were poor ladies who lined up to get their manes curled/straightened but was cut off for break.

I think the event program needs to be more streamlined, like when I asked when will be the raffle they weren't sure and I didn't get a direct to the point answer; no proper coordination . I thought there was one, but there was a raffle almost after every talk and not even once was I picked. My seatmate remarked "parang sila-sila lang nananalo" as she saw the girls at the booths being called.
One who was expecting beauty makeovers/make-up was also disappointed.
There was some boring intermissions that seemed like a million years and I can't go out coz I didn't want to miss anything so they should be like "alright 15 minute break or something!" I was there 10:30am to 6:30pm and many times I was sitting thinking what next?!! So I remembered my younger years as a bullied geek coz there were mostly young ladies. Many were ok but I saw a seemingly queen bee with her butt kissers who's mean with someone who was nice. Clue: Long queues bring out the nasty.
Another boo-boo I took note of was it's either the hosts weren't given a spiel just adlib or they wasn't advised. Case in point- hosts said Nippon will be talking about beauty brushes and makeup stuff. Up the stage speaker went, to talk about their product which was of course tools and cleansers. And she went off the stage, but the host simply had to rub in her first intro about us learning more about different brushes that did not transpire.

Over-all, judging on the jam-packed venue, and the smile on my face until the following day while looking at my manicure, it was a SUCCESS!

my 1 minute look

Hello, beautiful reader,

I want to share with you what I usually do when:
I'm too lazy/ feel sick nor not in the mood/ only have a minute to spare/ will sweat like a pig for the rest of the day so to put on heavy makeup that will make me shiny haggard will be pointless/ want to let my skin breathe/ has not so problematic skin for the meantime so I can bare it.

So here it is, my first FOTD please don't laugh

Now I feel awkward coz I don't really do selfies. I will call the first picture on the left wearing violet as A, and the second on the right wearing red as B. I think in A it's just after a bath and in B, it's afternoon and I am going out.

For A, I prep my face first- put on moisturizer which has sunscreen and will even out, mattify and brighten my skin but it has no serious concealing power. I used Garnier LightComplete (I think Pond's produces the same effect) but I actually prefer BB creams for its healthy ingredients and better coverage.
1. Powder my face (used Lancome poudre majeur)
2. Make my brows more defined (used Ever Bilena HD Eyebrow pencil in brown)
That's it! Later, I will just put on colored lippie while I am already riding  the vehicle on the way to my destination.

For B, I did not prep my face. I am in a hurry going somewhere really hot and steamy (oh yeah, as in the place is above a canteen with a big stove and cauldron and the heat and steam is just going to my place). If I sweat, i wouldn't top it with powder coz it will look cakey and will clog my pores resulting in more pimples. If I am using makeup it won't resist that much sweat and oil so I will look so shiny. So what I do is wash my face after sweating. I don't believe in the established belief that you should wash your face no more than twice a day so it will not be dry and make oil rebound to compensate the lack of moisture. After sweating I feel like washing with some soap or cleanser and if that's not available, plain water. And some of my classmates told me a long time ago, to always wash my face to dry out the acne.
1. Dab a pink creme blush on cheeks and lips and blend with fingertips (used TBS Lily Cole Dome)
2. Define eyebrows
And that's all there is to it.

I know in A and B I still look underdone, but I think that fixing eyebrows can help one look polished. I know it really takes many products to achieve a natural, bare faced  look.  I have many make-up but I don't really use them often.

I enjoy looking at 3 minute make up ladies do to make themselves more presentable. This is just my version of how I truly do it.

Thank you for bearing with me..

the Body Shop Rainforest Moisture Hair care kit

Howdy, beauties!
Today I will share with you my experience with the body shop rainforest moisture shampoo, conditioner and hair butter. It was in a nice box and came with a free comb that I love. I got this on sale at their Trinoma branch in Quezon City a few months ago but it was only recently that I really opened it because I got so many hair products. Most of my stock are samples or freebies in sachets, some I bought like 3 bottles at a time.

These are my conclusions since I'm nearly finished with it:

  • Affordable (coz it was on sale, price is Php 208.50)
  • Natural which is better for health!
  • No silicones, colorants or parabens
  • Moisturizing and makes hair soft
  • Very very nice fragrance of the shampoo makes me visualize flowers, freshness after a rain.. just lovely!
  • Conditioner and butter has sweet but subtle scent
  • Love the wide toothed green comb
  • Love that the contents are made in the UK, except the comb (China)
  • The first time I used the conditioner, WATER came out, as in clear liquid, so I shook it. What came out was like a spoiled soya milk. I never opened it before. The first time I used it was the first time I opened it.
  • I tried to contact their FB Phils page but had no response, and I don't have the receipt anymore.
  • Tendency to make hair a bit heavy
  •  Won't help with hair fall worries. It never claimed to do that on the first hand, but I used a good  hair fall rescue system before trying this. I've seen improvements with the product before this but after switching to this, the problem returned
  • No expiration date, only that it has to be finished within 12 months after it was first opened so to explain the foul looking conditioner with its bits that looked like (err, a bodily fluid?) maybe somebody smelled it way before I bought it
Here's the ingredients->

Will I buy it again? Maybe try another one of their variants and will be careful next time that it's still good.

As usual, thank you very much for reading.
