Garnier Pure Active Fruit Energy Review

Hello dear,

When Garnier had just arrived here, I was one of the people excited to try it. Their first product I bought years ago were its blue Pure Active mask and its Yellow light mask... I think I got it from Watsons SM Quiapo.

Now, I was privileged to try out Garnier Pure Active Fruit Energy Energizing Facial Foam before this baby is launched in the Philippine market. (Post Note: It is now sold in leading stores- 50 ml for Php 89, 100ml for Php 159)

fruit energy facial foam

Likes:

  • When I use it in the morning, the citrusy sweet scent is so- invigorating, energizing and awakening that one whiff and I snap out of my grogginess. But it's also suited in the evening before bed as I feel refreshed and cleansed but I still get to sleep immediately as well.
  • My top concerns are healing my oily, acne prone skin yet maintaining whiter complexion and it solves both- as it promises to fight acne and brighten skin.
  • My two brown spots (pimple scars) on the chin area had vanished to oblivion within few days of use.
  • During the first few weeks of using only this, I did not have any new pimples appear. Edit: As I was near emptying the tube, I had a HUGE zit smack the middle of my nose. Though I don't blame this for not preventing the occurence of the monster zit because I was always sleeping late.
  • No paraben or SLS.
  • Amazing for me, (but it depends on the individual if he or she will have any adverse reactions to it, or if it will suit them- in Tagalog, hiyangan)
made in Indonesia. please zoom for ingredients

Dislike:

Animal lovers like me are not happy to know that L'Oreal (owns Garnier) engages in animal testing.

Before I got this Fruit Energy wash, I am already using  their Light Scrub, then tried the foam variant when I ran out of it then switched to scrub again, the Light complete for AM, overnight peeling for PM and Pure Active roll-on for spot treatment. In an event I attended where they asked all participants what brand they use, I was proud to tell them I use Garnier! I also wanna try their face powder as my sister swears by it. To be honest, when I tried it years ago, I got pimples all over. I cannot be sure if this or something else caused it- or it was just a coincidence. When I subscribed to a BDJ box I got almost the complete Light line so I was anxious to use it again. This time, however, no more breakout!

my Garnier stuff- light cream for AM and PM part of my BDJ box; wash and roll on restocks I bought from the store

Garnier is a leading European brand that uses nature-based active ingredients- this in particular has Grapefruit, Pomegranate, Vitamin C and eucalyptus. I think their "take care" commercials are cute and memorable. What I love about Garnier is they're quite generous as a year ago, girls-me included- scored lots of samples while lining up to ride the LRT. Not only is it affordable, you can look out for sale on their products like me, I was able to buy 1 take 1/ or with additional-like facial wash tube came with freebie sachets; or their moisturizer comes with cleanser both full size.

Have you tried it and loved it as well?

what's in my kikay kit? -blogger rattus choki edition and e/s palettes

Hi there!
Today I want to feature a new friend of mine, Rattus Choki.
We bonded during Paula's Choice launching at Marriott hotel.  I raided his green bag. Here are the contents as kindly detailed by him.
Kokuryu Moist Lipstick - Royal Carrot
Nichido Matte Lipstick - Love Spell
San San Eyebrow Pencil #3 Dark Brown
Nichido Minerals Precise Eyeliner - Tiger Eye
Kleancolor Influencer Palette
Fashion 21 Eyebrow Powder Duo
ELF Studio Pressed Powder - Porcelain
ELF Healthy Glow Bronzer - Luminance
lol Cosmetics Face Powder #1 - Light
lol Cosmetics Vertical Eyeshadow #3 - Ivy Missed You
various brushes like Marionnaud and Shawill,
and FM fragrance

He just put in many cause of the event. But normally, he just brings 2 lipsticks, and a LOL and an ELF powder.

Earlier that day, he surprised me by his gesture. He was so nice to present me with this...

TADAA!!!
thanks sis rattus for this fashion 21 color set. it has a black pouch which is same with my lancome palette

I had always wanted a colorful rainbow set but I was reluctant to purchase. Well, I am not very adventurous with eyeshadows because I am not a master on it. Before, I ended up looking worse because of wrong application/wrong choice of colors (ie light blue on entire lids one time, and then silver the other time did not produce flattering results for me)... but I LOVE to look at all the beautiful colors. Really! I have few eyeshadow quads and eventhough I don't use them regularly, I got them because the different colors are eye candy! I will be using more of its "conservative" eyeshadows while I find the matte brown and white neat for contour and highlight.
eye shadow
pretty colors! available at the dept store for Php 375 only

blogger
that's the fab rattus. i already used f21 dark green as eyeliner and he put on me nose a wee bit of the brown for contour

His palette was perfectly just in time! A few weeks ago, I gave away this palette which I had for ages! I told my niece to use it for coloring the drawings on paper but it ended up promptly being thrown away by her guardian. Such a waste cause it feels good to color using this!

nichido blush and eyeshadow palette- I took a souvenir shot before discarding

I can't remember how much was its price when I bought it and its applicator (dual-end sponge and brush) was missing because I threw it away months ago. Now it's Php 100 with free mineral concealer pencil. I was not even close to hitting pan. But it's ok coz this is an item that I wouldn't mind if it gets broken or lost during traveling because its price is so cheap!

Don't you just love palettes? You get so many colors for the price you pay!

Revlon Grow Luscious Review

Revlon Grow Luscious by Fabulash mascara and lash enhancer boasts 96% saw longer, lusher (and stronger) lashes. It is being sold in department stores for Php 625 but I got it in their kiosk (free standing booth) in the mall for just Php 200.

grow luscious

Likes:

  • Instantly more defined lashes (but of course that's what it's supposed to do)
  • Did not clump
  • Because the opening to the tube is wider than most, it was also clean. There was no black wax that clung to the opening
  • Big brush reached even the tiny lashes at the outer corners
  • That it's nourishing with olive oil, wheat protein, tocopheryl acetate, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, panthenol
  • I've been using this for a month but I cannot say for sure that my lashes improved dramatically; but I am happy that compared with other mascaras, I did not experience fragile lashes that fall out easily with this
  • Quality product made in USA
revlon fabulash

Dislikes:
  • Because it was on sale, there was only 1 variant available- 003 blackened brown. I prefer if it's blackest black and waterproof
left eyelashes- no mascara.. right eyelashes- after applying 4 coats

I think this is a really good product. But this has already been replaced by Lash Potion in a more colorful, hologram like tube. I am excited to try that one too.

Cheers!

When I feel that I have too much, I give it away to friends/relatives. I just love looking at the colors but I don't use lipstick very often, and it was only when I got older and was working did I really use it. But being a girly-girl, I have a picture of a 3 year old me, swiping my grandma's Estee Lauder; of course I applied the color past my lips but now, even without mirror, I can apply it steadily :) I like to care for my lips and keep it pink by using balm, especially before sleeping and I don't smoke.

Paula's Choice Launch in the Philippines

It was a nice sunny Wednesday when Paula's Choice unveiled their skin care products to a select group of  Filipino bloggers. It was held October 2, 2013, 2pm-5pm at the 2/F The Den of the posh Marriott Hotel Manila (near NAIA 3). Before this I had no idea about the brand so I looked it up for a bit the night before. After the launch, I left  with so much knowledge and enthusiasm for the brand. Here are the reasons.

Testament to her products- in her picture in the banner, she doesn't look to be in her 60's

We were welcomed by no less than the Managing Director for South East Asia herself, Ms. Naree Mongkol. She is from Thailand, a courteous and accomodating lady. I find her looks very delicate and cute, and way younger that her real age. She shared she had never undergone any invasive procedure/surgery and uses only Paula's Choice products. To be able to look like in your early 30's when you are in your 40's is such a feat.
Ms. Naree was the gracious speaker, she has been in the skin care industry for 14 years
We can choose where to be seated among the 3 tables representing the 3 food menu- Cookies and Ice Cream/Chinese/Apples and Banana.
delicious marriott
so many food choices, but only these are what i partook-buchi, hamroll(?), jumbo size choc-chip cookie and crinkles, insanely delicious ice cream, milk then tea.. hey, sweets are my kryptonite i cannot lie!

SO who is Paula Begoun?
Paula Begoun, the Cosmetics Cop, is the author of over 30 books,  with over 2.5 million copies sold worldwide, such as Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me (said to be as thick as the yellow pages, reviewing almost all the cosmetics), and The Original Beauty Bible. Due to the demand and requests by the many people who believed in her, since she is very knowledgeable on the subject, she started her own line Paula's Choice, in 1995.

What touched me about her life-
She got terrible acne at 11, so she started to research on that subject and from then on, as they say, the rest is history. I got acne around 15 years of age, and I know it wasn't because I was dirty or lacking in hygiene. So I also got desperate; looked up and studied from many resources all about skin care.
Next- she got fired from her previous job because when customers asked her, instead of pushing their product, she can't help but tell the truth instead of lies, to the extent of advising them to buy another brand. For me, trust is very important. I place a great value on honesty. If you are reviewing/judging other company's products then the brand that carries your name should be really good. Your name and reputation is at stake, or else they could get back at you.

products bha resist exfoliate
some products on display at our table for our perusal. if ms. Naree can recommend only one product, it has to be the one on the left,  2% bha liquid for better, brighter, clearer skin
They showed actual product demonstrations. 2 apple slices cut since last night. Both were turning brown. After the Resist C15 super booster was applied to 1 slice, it got a bit brighter. And after few minutes, it was more obvious that it was lighter in color than the other untreated one that was continuously oxidizing. This product contains 15% Vitamin C, Vitamin E and ferulic acid, what you get is a potent anti-oxidant for firmer skin and reduced brown spots.

vitamin c treated apple demo
left treated apple is brighter. actual results more striking in personal than in picture
Next demo, few drops of sesame oil was placed at the back of the hands of a blogger who volunteered. Shine Stopper Instant Matte was applied to one hand, and just like a sponge it absorbed all those oil. The shine disappereared! This product is said to provide oil control up to 8 hours. Just put it in the T-zone, or anywhere prone to oiliness, after you shower, before you put in your powder.

What I love about their products,
  • Free from sulphates, fragrance, alcohol and colorants.
  • Since last year, all their new products contain no paraben.
  • Value for money- it can compare to or exceed the high end (those Php 5000+ luxury) brand's results but without the steep price tag. They do not hire actresses to be endorsers nor package it in a neat carton (but it is sealed, so don't worry). Word of mouth got it around as a testament to its efficacy. That way they pass on the savings to you and give you a superior formulation.
  • No animal testing.
  • Safe -most of their products can be used even for babies, and around the eye are. Took them almost a year to get FDA certified.
they gave me a full tube skin balancing moisturizer spf, sachets of shine stopper, 2% bha and resist pure radiance treatment to try. actual lootbag might vary per attendee

Good to know:
  • They are doing very good in Korea, with Php 700 million in annual sales. To be able to penetrate that market which has their own blockbuster brands currently hugely popular in many parts of the world, says a lot about how good Paula's Choice is.
  • AHA/BHA is their bestseller in 55 countries!
  • They have over 100 SKUs and more to come (watch out for their version of BB/CC cream-exciting!)
  • With Paula's Choice, you will never see anything in a jar. Her belief is that bacteria and oxygen easily enter the tub and spoil the actives that way.
the lovely bloggers with, (front row) PCP staff, (middle) Ms. Naree, to her right  is Mr. Gary- Paula's Choice Philippines key director

Based on the glowing testimonials, the presentation and demo, I think their product can really perform and deliver positive results. But don't take anybody's word for it, try it... might just be what your skin is looking for. It will soon be available at online shops,   Lazada and Zalora. Do check out  their FB page paulaschoice.com.ph.

Shout out to my very good and gorgeous friend, Rattus, for this opportunity and credits for some of the photos.

Choice tips I got from Paula

I learned many things during the event of Paula's Choice Philippines, to share:
  • #1 beauty secret- wear sunscreen. UVA kills skin cells so you need spf 30 or higher.
  • Beauty starts with good health. Could not agree more.
  • Stop vigorously scrubbing your face, it causes lines and wrinkles.
  • BHA is good for acne. It is from salicylic acid or aspirin. Start at 2% for it to be effective.
  • AHA is good for fairer complexion. Acid  from 3 fruits- malic/apple, tartaric/grapes, citric/lemon, plus lactic/milk, glycolic/sugar cane. Start at 5% for it to be effective.
  • Acne is caused by pores that are not clean and bacteria [and accumulation of dead skin cells.]
  • The correct exfoliant should match the skin ph, and even with everyday use, will not make the skin ultra sensitive or 'thinner', with veins showing underneath.
  • Physical sunscreens are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide and leaves a white cast.
  • Chemical sunscreens are those that absorb UV rays and can enter the bloodstream  like oxybenzone.
  • Whatever is applied in the skin first is absorbed more. For example you spot treated your acne, afterwards put on moisturizer. Then the acne medicine is absorbed more.
Ms. Naree flanked by mi amiga, and yours truly

There, I can go on but you might get bored because these are the more 'technical' part. But I think these are the important trivia to know and for us to be more beauty-savvy.

How to whiten your skin effectively

Most western beauties prefer to get tanned hence are called sun worshippers. I think they love to bask in the sun to get that fresh from vacation look but they can also get that from tanning beds in salons and by sunless ways like lotions/sprays. But here in the eastern part of the world, we generally like to get whiter skin. It can be synonymous with beauty, neatness, cleanliness and attractiveness. I myself am born with really fair skin. I am half-Filipino and have Spanish/Chinese lineage.

These are personal tips I would like to share to maintain whiter skin:

  1. Use only whitening lotion/cream with sunscreen all over the face and body everyday. Reapply during the middle of the day as needed or if it was wiped off.
  2. Stay out of the sun as much as you can (especially from 9 am to 4 pm) or if unavoidable cover as much exposed skin as you can. We want to prevent skin aging/burn and cancer.
  3. Use only whitening soaps.
  4. Use only lightening lotion/cream at night before sleeping. Popular ingredients include, but are not limited to, Glutathione, niacinamide, kojic, arbutin, licorice, mulberry, papaya. Be careful of some products that contain mercury- it is harmful.
  5. Exfoliate regularly with scrub or loofah.
  6. Try to bleach skin with kalamansi (green citrus like local lemon.)
  7. I avoid getting burned when I am in the beach during summer by using high SPF sunblock.
it is not all advantage to have fairer skin, because there are people who wouldn't like to pose beside you for the reason, and I quote, "..you make me look so dark."

Some people also use the whitening packs that you mix but I find that too messy, while others take glutathione supplements/drinks/injections.

Some people are happy with the skin they are born with, while others long to have it changed. Whatever rocks their boat, I say, just as long as it makes them happy. We have to respect that.

How to have bigger breasts

Are you worried that some guys have even bigger boobs than you? Don't be cause it's a medical condition called gynecomastia. But if you already have an ample bosom, congratulations. Chances are high it's hereditary; it's in the genes. But for those who are not contented with their "lumps", read on...
  1. Get fat... Gaining more pounds means more jiggle.
  2. Ask your MD about pills with a side effect of breast enlargement. I've really seen some ladyboys were successful on it.
  3. Try to have it massaged and stimulated. I think exercise also strengthens the muscle and make it appear firmer.
  4. Take some herbal supplements (i.e., fenugreek, saw palmetto, fennel, wild yam or red clover, but take caution- do research and ask medical advise) or apply creams (I doubt if it works.)
  5. Have a baby (some mommies said their "twins" got bigger.)
  6. If all else fails, go to a reputable and licensed specialist for breast augmentation.
  7. But if you're the type who's scared of surgery or injections, try using push up bra with thick padding and add some removable cookies or silicone gel pad, or contour with make-up to create cleavage.

Here's the fun part. Understand I am not an expert, and just take this with a grain of salt. Don't take those tips so seriously, y'all. But I feel, you should be genuinely happy and contented with what He has given you. Focus on your strengths. Have legs that go for miles, Angelina's lips or J.Lo-like booties? Work it girl!
Nobody's perfect after all and some imperfections make you the more beautiful and unique. Remember, you are His creation and you are BEAUTIFUL :)
