Glamourbox x Snoe January 2014

The first ever beauty box subscription I had bought was Glamourbox. Back then I didn't know that we already have this kind of service here in the country. I found out about it thru my cousin's FB. From there I researched and found out about other subscription boxes.

glamourbox.ph

What I love about Glamourbox is
  •  How they carefully curate the boxes
  • Exciting brands which I think is exclusive to them
  • Sturdy giftable sophisticated looking box
Price or subscription per box is Php 595 and the value of the box is worth more than double of what you pay for. In this case, just the shampoo is worth the payment.  All the additional products seem like freebies/bonuses!!!

I luckily won their FB contest (which was open for ALL their FB fans blogger/non-blogger welcome) and I chose 2 subscription boxes for my prize. Thank you Glamourbox!!!

What a great first box for the Year of the Horse! I was so happy to find these amazing Snoe products!!! Bath, body, makeup stuff.

Sampler of Poudre Extraordinaire - I have really fair skin but I got the DARK shade. It's ok I will still use this since I've been really wanting to try this! The full size of 35 g priced at Php 799

poudre extraordinaire besobalm

The price of Snoe items inside the box amounts to Php 1604 ( plus the powder sampler which I cannot compute since its weight is not indicated.) Snoe is proudly Filipino-made. They offer mid-range priced bath beauty and more (since their line keeps increasing) products. I think the quirky packaging or label, the names of their products and the natural ingredients sets them apart from the others.

I have tried their pink soap before.

Saving Mother Earth

It's in the news and we can feel it. Global warming, climate change, worsening natural disasters.
All of us, rich or poor, are living in the same blue planet. There is only 1 Earth and we are the stewards who should protect it.

Here are ways that I practice and encourage to help preserve the beauty of nature:

  1. Reduce, reuse, recycle. Whenever possible, refrain from using straws, or extra plastic bags, cups especially if non-biodegradable.
  2. Carpool/commute; and if destination is just nearby- walk or ride a bike to keep fit. Not only will it lessen gas emission (compared to 1 person : 1 car on the road), it will help alleviate the traffic jam.
  3. Throw your waste at thrash bins and segregate your garbage.
  4. Turn off electrical appliances when not in use; repair leaking faucets.
  5. Do not buy things that are not needed because it may end up as more garbage polluting the Earth.
  6. Report illegal loggers, miners, dynamite fishing.
  7. Favor or make the switch to organic products.
  8. Be responsible and contribute in your own way.

River in the background is too far below and wide. Would you believe during one of the recent super typhoons, it overflowed? Scary!!!

I hope lessons on caring for our environment will be taught more strictly in schools, in barangay centers in the communities and through other information dissemination channels.
But of course, it will be quite a challenge to learn on an empty stomach.

That is why my ultimate dream since childhood, is to be able to give nourishment to our famished brethren.
A soup kitchen  to feed our hungry fellowmen is the one thing I hope to be my gift to the Philippines.
My dear reader, now I ask you:
“If there is one thing you can give to the Philippines, what is that gift?”
I encourage you to share your answers in the comment form below.
At this time and age, we can let our voices be heard by the authorities. And maybe, just maybe, all our positive thinking can move the powers that be and make our dreams come true.

Thank you very much for your time.

Joining the Tokyo Love Soap Craze

My cousin and I used to chat regarding beauty products and promos. Late last year, when she visited Japan, she mentioned Tokyo Love Soap and that it was popular. I was intrigued because I didn't know it at all. So I researched about it and found out that many people have been raving about it. I asked her to buy me one and she said she will just give it to me for free as pasalubong (gift.) She said she had a hard time looking for it there and had to go to many stores. I just want to share that she said the storekeepers in Japan are very polite and respectful.

Are there fake Tokyo Love soaps? Based on my research, no! Those bearing the logo are authentic but different versions.

Likes
  • Does not melt easily. See the picture below- almost 2 months after and it's still big.
  • Very fragrant- the bathroom smells lovely. I can't exactly pinpoint what scent it was. I can't understand the label so I sought online and found out it is ylang ylang and rose scent.
  • I rarely had any blemishes with it and if ever, it's small and goes away fast.
  • Skin is instantly brighter after one use (believe me I wanted to show the "before and after 1 use" of my face)- but of course, it's not magic and permanent. Regular use is needed because we are continuously exposed to the elements.
  • Seems to somewhat refine skin and pores, although I wouldn't say the enlarged pores (or rather deep pitted scar) had disappeared completely.
  • Japan made = high quality!
Comment

  • Expensive- a 100 gram bar costs about Php 600 (depending on the variant and seller.)
  • Not easily bought at brick and mortar stores here in the Philippines. If it's available in leading department stores, you could smell and touch the tester. You can purchase thru online sellers.
  • My cousin who gave me this was not hiyang (compatible) and reported she had a facial breakout. So she used it on her body and she said her skin became soft and smooth.
  • After using it many times, of course it will get smaller. Now, this smaller- almost used up- bar does not lather easily and is not as foamy as a "fresh" one.

I opened it last November 4, 2013; this picture is taken December 27.. Left- This is the size of one half of the bar I used. I used it almost exclusively on my face, (on the body only about 4 times); even my husband was off limits.

half bar after more than a month
cut in half so it can last longer

Is it worth repurchasing?
I think so!!! Just include it if budget permits...

AVON Skin Goodness BB Cream Review

I got the Skin Goodness Moisturizing BB Cream as part of my Avon x Glamourbox subscription box for only Php 595 around July/August last year . For that price, I got more than Php 2000 worth of products heehee and I adore that their boxes look really presentable and  sturdy ;)

When you buy it from your Avon lady, it costs Php 399.

Available in 2 shades: Light and Nude.

Made here in the Philippines.

skin goodness bb cream

Likes:
  • At last a BB cream that's not oily/shiny!!!
  • The skin nourishing benefits of a BB cream.
  • Its light fragrance reminds me of cucumber.
  • Decent, medium coverage (needed concealer for the really dark spots.)
  • I appreciate that it's in a small tube (at 18g) as I don't finish all the contents of a big tube. I discard or give away foundies/creams after few months even when there is still half contents remaining.
  • Did not cause me any major breakout.

Comments
  • The second time I used it, clear liquid like water came out followed by the brown cream itself. I was bothered by this separation because it is relatively newly manufactured when I had it, (but I was keeping it in my cabinet for about 2 months prior to first opening it since I still got other products that I should use first.) So I contacted them and found out that it is normal and I have to shake it before using.
  • Contains Paraben, but I suppose it is a necessary evil as I don't want to smear spoiled cream on my face.
  • The shade I received was Nude, which is about 3 shades DARKER than my very fair facial skin color.

massage well and it will blend seamlessly with your skin

Background:
I am a late bloomer when it comes to makeup as I am afraid it further aggravates my already problematic skin. As an adult, the first makeup I used was the mineral powder then switched to Korean (tried about 6 brands) BB creams.

Consumer Rights in the Philippines

Consumers have rights, but often, we don't complain. We may be unaware or we don't want the hassle ARGUING with an uninformed cashier.

Like when I buy in some stores, they don't give the change (few centavos missing.) Sometimes I note the price in the display, but upon checkout/paying it surprises me to see that the price became higher saying they had a mark up but the listed price in the shelf was not updated- so then they have me pay the higher price.

A real incident/experience happened last year when I bought half dozen apples from the supermarket that I shall call "ET-EM". There was a certain price in the shelf but upon paying I found out that I was charged HIGHER because of updated pricing or mark up. While last month (December), when I bought a sparkling wine, the price upon checkout in the cashier is LOWER than in the price tag of the bottle. The cashier was confused; good thing her superior was beside her and instructed her to charge me the lower price. Good job on this, Landmark!

You know what, stores should always give us our change even if it means they'll be giving more than our supposed change when they don't have the exact coins. They should give us whichever is the LOWER price when the shelf and the system price is different! From what I learned in my law subject in college, it's their obligation. And the law mandates so! Just that customers like me don't like to make a fuss.

It will help to remember the 8 basic consumer rights.

iPAD AIR Review

Welcome 2014!!!

And I've got a brand new gadget!!! Loveeeet!!!
The iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display are the latest of Apple's tablets.  We chose the former because it has a bigger screen which means better viewing.

ipad air review

Press info from their website states:

"Apple Announces iPad Air—Dramatically Thinner, Lighter & More Powerful iPad
iPad mini Features Stunning Retina Display & 64-bit Apple-designed A7 Chip
SAN FRANCISCO—October 22, 2013—Apple® today announced iPad Air™, the latest generation of its category defining device, featuring a stunning 9.7-inch Retina® display in a new thinner and lighter design. Precision-engineered to weigh just one pound, iPad Air is 20 percent thinner and 28 percent lighter than the fourth generation iPad®, and with a narrower bezel the borders of iPad Air are dramatically thinner—making content even more immersive. Apple today also announced iPad mini with Retina display, bringing all the pixels from the 9.7-inch iPad to its 7.9-inch screen, delivering razor sharp text and detail in the same amazingly thin and light design. The new iPads feature the powerful and power-efficient Apple-designed A7 chip with 64-bit desktop-class architecture, ultrafast wireless with faster built-in Wi-Fi and expanded LTE cellular connectivity, and the newly-designed iOS 7 featuring hundreds of great new features.

“iPad created an entirely new mobile computing experience, and the new iPad Air is another big leap ahead. It is so thin, light and powerful, once you hold one in your hand you will understand what a tremendous advancement this is,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPad Air with its 9.7-inch Retina display weighs just one pound and packs the incredible performance of iOS 7 running on a 64-bit desktop-class Apple A7 chip, and delivers all-day battery life in the lightest full-sized tablet in the world.”"

Philippine SRP of iPad Air with Wi-Fi ONLY (Higher price for WiFi+Cellular about Php 6,500 more)

  • 16gb Php 25, 490
  • 32gb Php 30, 490
  • 64gb Php 35, 490
  • 128gb Php 40, 490
Now I'm not a very techie person. Even some kids might know more technical stuff than me. So all that jargon and I'm like, what?! We chose Apple because it was highly recommended by some friends. All the other info I needed to know is it has a sharp, clear camera and that Apple has some sort of anti-virus protection/virus blocker.

accent micro 2

It is manufactured in China. Available in colors space gray or silver. 1 year warranty. (Just wanted to say that some warranties are BS like my laptop from another brand- the 1 year hasn't lapsed yet and we're complaining about the bluetooth and some Symantec pop ups that may be caused by virus but the service center says they will charge if it's software problems.)

After much canvassing in different stores and haggling , we bought it in Accent Micro for the cash price of Php 24, 470.
ipad air price

The salesman (helps that one of the staff know us) gave us some free apps (because the brand new one only has very basic contents) and their store's free calendar.
