Comparing Notes: BPI and BDO

I decided to write about my experience because I wasted more than an hour in the bank earlier just to make a deposit (not counting almost another hour just to get cash from this branch's sole ATM. Total of almost 2 hours). I still can't get over it even after eating halo-halo so I put this in writing.

Service- The people in BPI are, generally speaking, more courteous and polite.
Why I have come to this- They have branches in Tondo where the 2 banks are almost neighbors. In BPI, the staff never fail to give welcome and thank you greetings. Especially their manager, she is very friendly and accommodating.

While in BDO, I can see their staff are gossiping and one made derogatory remarks about a female client who had just left because her child was hyperactive.

When I deposited earlier in BDO, I saw there was a monitor just above the teller showing lines like smile and conversation nurture relationship. The funny thing is, the teller is frowning and did not say good afternoon or thank you. Only the guard gave greetings. Of course, I understand they are tired, but being a client for such a long time, I would expect better service from them.

One time, when we were encashing a check, they made a fuss about the signature in it. We were made to return the following day and they asked for the ID copy of the recipient. When we showed it to them, the teller who faced us this time around said they don't need a copy of the ID and even said who asked for it. ?!

Comfort- In BPI, even if I have to wait for my turn, I am seated comfortably. I go to the BEA computer, put my details then when it's my turn facing the teller it's so fast and easy.

In BDO, I stood in line for more than an hour to make a deposit. (Not to mention waiting under the heat of the sun for close to an hour to withdraw from the ATM). It's like lining up for free canned goods, noodles and rice.

ATM- Depends on the location. In Ayala malls, expect more BPI ATM Machines.

In SM Malls, expect more BDO ATMs. There are places where there is a BDO ATM but no BPI ATM, and locations where there is a BPI ATM but no BDO ATM.

I have been a depositor  in BDO for a decade, I think. Not even once did I receive a token, not even a little pocket calendar. I get it. I am not a multi-millionaire hence I am not a most valued client. But I am happy that they have a Rewards Card. I use the accumulated points to pay when I shop in SM.

I go to BPI to make deposits to other people's accounts and also there were some companies I worked in where their payroll is thru BPI. I am thinking of transferring my funds to BPI, but the thing holding me back is that I think they don't have a service that lets me have BOTH ATM and Passbook.

Update: I have opened a savings account at BPI (my account with BDO is still active so I now have 2). It allows me to have a passbook but no ATM, but it is alright as I heard that recently, there has been complaints of disappearing money after using BPI ATM.

So there, I just wanted to write about it. As you can see, I wrote honestly and I am in no way paid by either company or invented these things. These are just my observations because I have been to their different branches many times.

Feature: The Apocalypse Project

Are you ready to become a defender of the future?
What are disappearing because of climate change? How do we adapt?
How can we train ourselves to think deeper about the future of the planet?

The Mind Museum opens a special exhibition that will make you think about your relationship with the planet on April 25, Friday.
The Apocalypse Project: Imagined Futures is a speculative design exhibition that explores possible lifestyles as climate change continues to affect the planet. It aims to empower the public to embrace climate change as a personal challenge through the following exhibit areas:

T.E.M.P.S (The Ephemeral Marvels Perfume Store) presents: The Smell Bar of Vanishing Scents
Climate Change Couture: Volume 2, Manila
The Fadelist: Tracks of Endangered Sounds
The Climatoscope: Futurescapes of Planet Earth
The Planetary Poetry Board

If you are available on opening day tomorrow, April 25, do join them for a special MISSION APOCALYPSE activity. To further enhance the exhibition experience, guests with tickets can go on a scavenger hunt mission throughout the museum’s exhibits. The first 500 participants to complete all tasks of the mission get an Apocalypse Badge as Commander of the Apocalypse, defender of the future.

2014 Planners

Yeah I know, it's almost half of the year but here are my planners for 2014.

2014 planner philippines

From Mercury Drug, 2013 and 2014 planners. Instead of using my 30 points for vitamin/medicine worth Php 30, I redeemed this planner. I preferred the inside pages of the previous year because it's more organized with schedules and nicer paper; but in terms of the cover, this year's better.

Belle De Jour Power Planner I bought for about Php 480 during their rendezvous. It's not just a notebook; it's a GREAT planner with helpful tools. They also have coupons/ fun events.

Lacoste planner more of a notebook with coupons. Free with Php 10,000 purchase.

Oppo planner also more of a notebook. It was a freebie/giveaway during their event.

mercury drug, belle de jour, lacoste planner

The 2013 MDC planner is only about 10% used and written in. I know, I should use it more often but I don't have a job and I'm a spontaneous kind of person. So yeah, nice to have around. Sometimes doodle in.

FREE Greenwich Pizza for 1 Year!

YEZZZZZ!!! I won a 1 year supply of Greenwich pizza!

hawaiian overload pizza

I found out about this promo when I saw their ad in the wall of the mall a couple of days ago (and  saw some giant pizza displays around) but I actually forgot when it'll be held and didn't know the mechanics so we called. One of their staff, a kind lady wearing eyeglasses, even went out of her way outside to answer our questions; unfortunately I wasn't able to get her name.

So I was in SM North Edsa by 7 am. And I know someone who woke up by 4 am for this (free pizza!)

first 200 free 1 year pizza

When the guards finally let people in at 10 am I dashed. I thought I'd be the first in line but there were already some guys in the queue. Came in at Number 12.

The first 200 customers to order a 15 inch Hawaiian Overload priced at Php 499, would be given a card for claiming a double thin Hawaiian Overload pizza every month. It's for pick up in this branch.

Lloydy is my hubby's aunt's ultimate crush

This means I'll be in Greenwich monthly making me a Greenwich Barkada too. I love Italian food like pizza, lasagna, pasta so I'm a happy kid. Few days ago, when I didn't know about this event yet, I took a photo of my food from Greenwich and posted it in Instagram. Must be fate, haha!

And I'm not sure I heard correctly that John Lloyd Cruz will be there this afternoon.

Quanta Paper R3RUN Run For Sustainability

For a decade now, an eco-friendly manufacturer in the Philippines balances business with social conscience. “We endure to strike a balance between profit and social conscience,” says Quanta Paper Corporation President & General Manager Steven Leung.

Guided by the principle of sustainable practices, Quanta Paper manufactures hygienic tissue
products utilizing used office paper as raw materials instead of virgin fibers. This help in the
preservation of world’s rainforests, because deforestation is the result of the traditional practice in the paper
making industry when they extract virgin fibers.

Quanta Paper R3RUN fun run

The green campaign/ fun run activity will be held on August 10, 2014, 5 AM. The Run for Sustainability, or dubbed as R3RUN (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle Run) is aimed

  • to inspire environmental action among Filipinos and raise awareness on climate change
  • to educate consumers on the importance of green labeled products and how patronizing such could help protect nature
The R3RUN serves as both strategic marketing and social responsibility tools of the Company. “We would like to be more loudly in telling our story of sustainable practices and at the same time capitalize in building our brand equity,” shares Quanta Paper corporate strategist and Race Committee head Neil Erich Galicia. “The Run is a step forward to begin a bold and concrete action. In this way we could start a wave that could reach through every corner of our archipelago.”

R3RUN is to be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex in Roxas Boulevard Manila and will be participated in by around 10,000 runners.

Inspired by an EcoVillage theme, it will showcase some of the best environmental photo exhibits and social efforts by the Company and its partners and will also show how hygienic tissue is produced from waste paper to finished product.
There will be games and other interactive activities all focused on environmental stewardship.

The runners come from different walks of life- students, government officials and employees, artists and TV personalities, corporate partners and green advocates. Among the participants is Jasmine Curtis-Smith,
brand endorser for its new sanitary napkin product, Perfect Pads.

Four race categories:

  • 1km and 4km (carrying the Company’s sanitary napkin brand, Perfect)
  • 8km (carrying the Company’s institutional brand, Eco-Hygiene
  • 12km (carrying the Company’s flagship brand, Fresh)

Haul from SM North Edsa Shoes and Bags Sale

I accompanied my husband today as he went to the Skydome April 3 to 6, 2014 Shoes and Bags Sale. Earlier, I told myself I don't need to buy anything new for myself, but of course, that didn't push through. Read on to see my fab find... 86% off!

sm north edsa

There's so many people inside!

skydome shoes and bags sale

As we were looking for his work bag, which he replaces often because it gets ruined easily because of the heavy contents, a luggage being pushed caught my eye. I asked for the price and I was very surprised. It was originally Php 10,999.75 now only Php 1,500. I was like- HUWAAAAT?!! My other luggage that I bought in the department store from a local brand needs to be replaced. During its 2nd time of use, I repeat just SECOND, the handle came off. But good thing we can bring it to them for free repair.

tsa lock

I had a hard time choosing between that one and this one. I liked that this blue Elle luggage looks more modern, it's from a newer collection as compared with the first one, it's a bit smaller and way lighter, and the material is the same with what is used in parachutes. More importantly, I save more with this as the original price is about Php 15,000 now only Php 1,500 too.

elle bag

Well we finally settled for the brown one because of these considerations- it's bigger, it has more compartments, more wheels (this has 4 medium plus + 2 smaller =6 wheels, while the other one only has 4) and it has a TSA lock. It looks more formal and like a classy bag.

Both of them have a cover and hanger inside. The downside of the Elle luggage sale is that they removed the warranty.

elle luggage

While waiting for my hubby I saw that Grendha has a sale too. I need to replace my worn out Ipanema so I got this for Php 750. I can't quote the original price because the salesman removed the "price before" sticker prior to checkout but I think this about Php 1,450. I had a hard time looking for my #6 Sandals Size.

Finally, my husband got his bag. It's Compass  bought for Php 1,280. He had to really search around because it's the last day of sale so most of the styles he preferred were already sold out.

A couple of days after, he had that replaced with this backpack from Europak. From Php 3,999.75, it's now only Php 2,800.

europak backpack

Well I feel guilty that my hubby bought only 1 for himself while I got 2 for myself. In fairness to me, I don't ask him to buy me anything, it was HIM who always insists on getting me stuff. Yeah, spoiled wifey here.

Note: This isn't a paid/sponsored post. Just my Happy Days experience :)

Yale Digital Locks Philippine Launching

Last April 2, 2014, Assa Abloy  held the unveiling of Yale digital locks (Security meets Convenience) to the Philippine media at the Marquee Tent of the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel.

A sumptious buffet was in store for the guests.

One of their banners seen upon entering:

Here is Mr. Stanley Ngai, Assa Abloy Country Manager delivering his message:

stanley ngai

Since 2000, Yale has been part of Assa Abloy. Assa Abloy has more than 200 global brands under its portfolio. It is the world leader in total door opening solution and is ranked 38th in Forbes's list of the world's most innovative companies.

Digital door locks started in South Korea (yes, the Koreanovela fan beside me notices it in the shows) about 20 years ago.

There was a funny act wherein crooks Mr. & Mrs. Locksmith tried to unbolt the Yale locks but were unsuccessful and thus caught.

yale digital lock

Mr. Alok Gupta, Assa Abloy Digital Door Locks Head for South Asia- talking about the benefits from the new Yale digital locks:

alok gupta

I have enumerated the attributes in the previous blog post but here's a little secret:

It has a ladies' feature. Yep. I am quite giddy when I heard it. How it comes handy: At times when a wife gets angry when her husband comes home very late from drinking all night, she can choose to lock it from the inside such that when he's trying to open it from the outside he can't have access.

They raffled off some state of the art door locks twice. In the first one, when a name gets called, that person should answer correctly Mr. Gupta's question. There's 3 winners for that if I remember correctly. In the second round, 5 people will try their luck in opening the lock using the code they picked from the fishbowl but only 1 will get the smartest door lock from the collection. Oh, how I wish I won it!

Mr. Sonny Ver Soneja, Assa Abloy Digital Door Locks Business Development Manager inviting us in their Trade Events in Edsa Shangri-La Mall and Alabang Town Center.

I was also with some blogger friends during this event, Jocris and Rattus.

Thanks for your generosity Yale!
