Tambayan 101- Mastering the Fine Art of Making Tambay

"Good morning!" chirped the guy at the entrance as I went inside Tambayan 101. I could not believe my eyes as I took in the surroundings. Young adults in tables eating, drinking and talking and double deck beds. Double deck beds?! Yes, I believe they are the first to have this kind of concept, hence the moniker is very apt.

Tambayan 101, located in 976 Don Ysidoro Street, Malate, Manila (after Kapitan Tikong Street, and near De La Salle College of St. Benilde), is just that literally. Envisioned as a chill out or hang out place for students of nearby schools as they await their next class during their vacant period, or as a place to wind down after the last class. After all, the place used to be a dormitory.

However, with this kind of hang out, I am sure it will attract not only students, but people of different ages and occupations! How about you? Care to share your tambayan during school days?

Skinwhite Review- Does It Whiten in 7 Days?

Hello po! We Pinays (well, majority) would love to have whiter skin. Here is a review of Skinwhite Facial Cleanser and Creams!

Skinwhite is made in the Philippines by Splash Corporation and is modeled by actress Kim Chiu. Available in major supermarkets, departments stores, drugstores. The price is very affordable.

skinwhite advanced whitening facial cleanser face cream review
Used 3 Skinwhite products for the face.

Skinwhite Advanced Whitening Facial Cleanser

  • Price- Php 24 for 75ml.
  • I have bought it a few times already, a driving force during those times is that it came with a freebie (I forgot, maybe a cream or soap).
  • Scent reminds me of another toner, I think Pond's.
  • Yeah it cleans, I can see the grime in the cotton ball. But I think the other toner I used before it cleanses MORE deeply. After using makeup remover and washing my face twice, the cotton ball with Skinwhite looks yellowish. But with my other facial cleanser, the dirt in the cotton balls seems blackish.

Skinwhite Classic Whitening Face Cream
  • Price- Php 7 for 7g.
  • I love the scent. Like a calming baby product.
  • Perfect for oily skin. Non- greasy. Easily absorbed.

Skinwhite Advanced Whitening Face Cream Powder
  • Price- Php 19 for 7g.
  • My colleague at work had been using this as a touchup in the middle of the day, instead of face powder.
  • Scent is different form the blue one. It's okay but I like the Classic's scent better.
  • Can't put a large amount or alone. Or else the face will look like it has been dipped in flour. Looks very unnatural.
  • Great for oily skin, however tends to highlight dry, patchy areas.
  • BUT my best discovery is that it is a GREAT primer! Oh yeah! Tiny amount gives a smooth canvass (settles in pores to hide them) and keeps oilies at bay! I love to use it under foundation or face powder!
Did Skinwhite keep its claim to whiten in 7 days?
In my experience, after using Skinwhite facial cleanser twice a day, Classic cream in the morning and Advanced Cream before bed, NO. I did not notice any fast or significant whitening result.

whitening astringent, whitening cream, skinwhite philippines,
Left- Pinkish advanced Cream turns to POWDER! Right- White Classic cream.

Will I buy Skinwhite again and recommend to others?
Yeah, it's okay! Especially the advanced cream- a cheap primer that works. It's good for oily skin. It did not give me pimples. However, Skinwhite was unsuccessful in making my skin whiter. I feel that it does not live up to its name.

California E-bike (by CDR-King) for sustainable eco-living- PR

Hello po! As the saying goes, CHANGE is inevitable.

Disruptors are welcome, from an old school point of view to the most advanced technological breakthroughs in power supply, whichever generation.

During grade school, Nikola Tesla was, generally speaking, unfamiliar to us, and only known once we reach high school. He was the one who challenged the existing and widely accepted manner of lighting though oil lamps to the macro voltage – electricity distribution system courtesy of his well-accepted AC (Alternating Current).

Yes, Tesla may not be as famous as Tomas Edison as taught during basic education, but his works and legacy lights up to this day. The same aspiration as CDR-King, every Pinoy's one-stop media provider, intends to manifest- to bring products and cost-efficient means of power/electricity supply to every home or office.

california e-bike, cdr-king, solar kit, tondo branch,

California Eco-Bike

Good news! California E-bikes, a CDR-King subsidiary, opens its doors in Tondo, my hometown!!! The branch is powered by a hybrid electricity system that enables sustainable solar energy. As environmentally friendly as it should be, it also aims to display similar concept Solar-kit for one's household. This in turn helps people to save thousands of hard earned money on monthly electric bill.

Early 2013 was when California E-bike started its operations in the Philippines with the E-Scooter. Later on they came out with other variants of e-bikes. Today California E-bike offers more than 30 variants in more than 40 branches.

I am very happy to know, as an environmentalist, that there is a steady growth of e-bike fans. California E-bike is gearing towards its mission to improve transportation in an eco-friendly way, one e-bike at a time and reaffirming its efforts towards Green Living to save our environment.

Visit them at their newly opened Gagalangin, Juan Luna, Tondo branch or your nearest California e-bike store. You may also visit http://www.ebike.cdrking.com and http://solarquestph.com/

Romantic Day with Precious Hearts in the 36th MIBF

The travel from SMX Mall of Asia in Pasay City to Caloocan City Hall was quite far so I took from the paper bag a Precious Hearts Romances Pocketbook and pored over it. I almost reached the middle part when it was time to alight. I felt a sort of nostalgia. Ever since I was young, I would see women reading these pocketbooks, even inside the jeepney. Even our helpers were crazy over them and would be swapping these, and I would borrow from them. I am inspired with the love stories. They were a huge hit that Precious Hearts Romances later on became  a daily afternoon soap.

The 36th Manila International Book Fair had a run in SMX from September 16-20, 2015. I went there on Sunday, 1-5 PM for Precious Hearts Romances, held in the Stage Area.

I think Tagalog pocketbooks are very important. Not only is reading an excellent hobby, I get a glimpse of lives lived by other Filipinos, the culture and tradition especially in the provinces that otherwise I would not have known since I was born and raised in the city.

I am actually a frustrated writer so yeah, now I am a blogger... You know, I would have loved to make this blog in Tagalog if it were not for the search engine technicalities. As our national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal said, "Ang hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling wika, ay higit pa sa hayop at malansang isda."

Animal Rescue in the Philippines

The price of compassion has a hefty price tag- being ridiculed, laughed at, dismissed as a loony and so on. Having taken in countless cats since I was a kid, sometimes dogs too, the scenario may be different- a kitten by the side of the road below a car, kittens placed in a carton thrown in the creek in  a middle of a storm, etc- but the main cast is quite the same. Animal(s) in distress, evil person (often in the form of a child), numerous indifferent people passing by, and a single person who cared enough.

animal rescue philippines
One of our rescues, left in front of a convenience store.

This is my rescue a few days ago. I haven't named him then but now I call him Peeta. His story---

As I was going to the market to buy fish, I passed by the area where I had previously picked up B1 and B2 who were abandoned in a plant box (more about them in my Instagram post), I heard low cries. Initially, I thought it was their Mother, but upon reaching a canal, my greatest fear was confirmed. That almost quiet, shaking voice had belonged to a little kitty!

animal blogger philippines
Left for dead? Canal where I got him.

I can see he was fighting for dear life, calling for help. Standing up on hind legs to avoid the waters and front paws against the wall. Who am I to deny him?

Never mind that I was wearing a dress, I dropped down on all fours, and had my knees and elbows dirtied. I inserted my hands into the little hole in the concrete slab covering the canal. I reached a few times but was unsuccessful. Maybe my arms were short, or the kitten was too far from reach.

My forearms got a few abrasions from the friction against the concrete. I removed the concrete slab and thankfully it was not heavy. At that point, a boy approached me, and tried to help me but he was also unable to. He said it was his cousin who had thrown the kitten in the canal. At last, I was able to get the kitten. I put it in the meantime in a safe place, bought some fish, put it in the extra plastic I asked for, and carried it home.

pet blogger philippines
Left: Stinking because of the murky waters. Right: After a bath. I had brought him to the vet, who said the eye damage cannot be undone. But I am praying that the eyesight be restored. I can see progress in his condition.

animal shelter philippines, cat rescue,
After eating, and sleeping, obviously exhausted.

We are not rich- I never claim to be, but I can rescue and adopt. Yes there are some poor parents who don't have in their budget to buy play stuff so their kids are instead toying with (and in the process maltreating) animals, throwing them around. But I can see some homeless people also taking care of animals like their family. We humans need to realize we are not the only living creatures who has a right to live in this world. All it takes is a heart of compassion. The courage not to look away from those in need, no matter the specie. Believe me, the love of an animal is different- may be even greater than a boyfriend/girlfriend.

If this story has touched your heart, and you would like to make a donation (in cash or in kind, for vet bills, food and vitamins, etc) for our numerous RESCUED cats and dogs, please get in touch in the comments below or thru e-mail vic.denise88@gmail.com.
