The Inspiring Chan Lim Lantern Exhibit at SM North EDSA

Hello po!
I greatly appreciate works of art. If I were to choose between going to a bar or a museum, I would choose the latter in the blink of an eye.

That's why I signed up agad agad when I learned there is a FREE calligraphy workshop in a blogger event last January 24, 2016!

Sm North EDSA's first activity for the coming Chinese New Year is the unveiling of over 100 hand painted Chinese lanterns by the notable (one of the few remaining, and sought after!) Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students.

Called A New Light of Prosperity, Sm City North EDSA presents a grand collection of Chinese Lanterns as a wish for a bright future.

Featuring works from 35 artists, the Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students exhibits more than a thousand art works yearly in different venues nationwide. To date, they have staged the fourteenth exhibit.

Their paintings are in collections here and abroad.

Of course, I will not dare miss having a photo-op with the family patriarch, Mr. Jose Chan Lim, who is also fondly called "Ang Kong". He has dabbled in Western art and specializes in oil and watercolor.

They also served heart warming Chinese food from Lugang Cafe. Partaking yummy dishes in the same table with dear blogger friends is always a joy!

No prior sketch with pencil, straight on the paint brush with light strokes on the rice paper.

Bamboo, chrysanthemum and landscape were painted swiftly by Dr. Alex Chan Lim's experienced hands.

He jokes that if he makes a mistake while painting, he will not announce it so you will think it is still going on smoothly.

My work hehe! We were taught that day by Chan Lim students. Since I can write Chinese words/characters (studied in a Chinese school) I know the brush is called mo pit and the black ink is called o bak.

Chan Lim Family launched artworks in different materials like fan, lantern and porcelain plate. (Insider tip: Egg shells are in the pipeline!)
